Soooo...
I finally got out.
I applied to go to Ecuador and i got in! :)
It was the best time in my life so far.
I have never felt so happy in my life than I was in Ecuador.
I met some of the greatest friends who became my sisters, and worked with the most incredible people who taught me so much.
Although it was great, it was definitely the most humbling experience i've ever had.
I fly in and have two great, big suitcases and a carry on that is stuffed with things. Angel and Athena picked us up from the airport and we were on our way to the much anticipated OSSO house. As we were driving through Quito I immediately hung my head in embarrassment because of all of the useless things I brought and own. For me, I was humbled right then. I couldn't believe all the poverty. I thought of the children i would soon meet and how i was going to handle seeing them without parents and families who love them. Seeing them not have what I have and hold so close to my heart.
I think the thing I was most nervous about was the girls I was going to have to live with for two and a half months.
Well, let me tell you, I'm so glad I didn't let that hold me back because I met my sisters.
The second I walked into the house Morgan and Megan, my roommates, ran up to me and took my bags and helped me up to our room. I was so relieved. They were so sweet to me and honestly, i felt like i had known them my whole life. They immediately became my best friends.
My first night I had my room to myself. All the old girls were sleeping downstairs with their first group. I was so happy because I just wanted to take it all in by myself.
I had just left my boyfriend and BEST friend for almost three months and he was to leave five days after I got home from ecuador. I was sad, but I felt so happy nonetheless. I left my family. This was the first time I had ever moved out of my house.
Funny right? I won't move to Orem, but i'll move to Ecuador in a second.
The sounds of Quito are so soothing. My favorite thing to do there, besides be with my perfect babies, was to lay on my bed, with the window open, and read, write in my journal, or just take everything in.
So that is what i got to experience my first night there, all alone. Talk about a dream.
As I laid there I thought about the things that got me there, to my real home.
I thought about how supportive my parents were and my whole life. How they were pushing me out the door in excitement for the things that I would see and learn.
I thought about Isaac and even though this was pretty much goodbye for two years and three months for us, he still was so happy for me and pushed me to do it. He always has wanted what was the best for me and whatever I want, he wants. He is so supportive and understanding that way.
I thought about the things I would see, both happy and sad, how my life would change because of those things, and how I would grow.
My mind was reeling. I couldn't stop it. But finally I closed my eyes and fell asleep on my first night in Quito where my heart would stay forever.
